Activated Carbon for fume and odor control
When necessary AIR SENTRY® breathers incorporate activated carbon to eliminate objectionable, gases and odors either from entering your equipment or from exiting your equipment depending on your specific application needs.
Many tanks and reservoirs contain fluids that discharge undesirable gases, fumes and odors. AIR SENTRY® Contamination Control Breathers contain either silica gel to adsorb moisture, activated carbon to absorb fumes and odors or a combination of both silica gel and activated carbon to handle both jobs.
A complete list of the capacity index values for the fluids that produce these gases which are neutralized by activated carbon is shown at the bottom of this page.
The activated carbon used in AIR SENTRY® breather’s is manufactured from coconut shell which is heated to over 2,000º C under high pressure. This curing process creates fissures on the surface of the heated shell, resulting in a high quality, small pore activated carbon product. It is in these fissures that gases and particles are trapped.
AIR SENTRY® provides many standard breather model numbers with this activated carbon or a mix of carbon and silica gel to meet your application needs.
Removal Capacity of Activated Carbon for Various Contaminant Vapors
This table shows the relative capacity of the Activated Carbon (Type AC) used in AIR SENTRY® Breathers to remove selected chemical compounds from air under typical ambient conditions.
Capacity Index Value:
HIGH Capacity: Carbon adsorbs between 20% and 40% of its own weight.
GOOD Capacity: Carbon adsorbs between 10% and 25% of its own weight.
